Banking Client Static
Business Driver:
Inconsistent client static data across multiple systems and business units was exposing the client to unnecessary risk, adding unnecessary costs and reducing the ability to leverage client activity to drive additional revenue.
This needed to be resolved urgently in order to comply with the terms of the Basel II AIRB Waiver, as well as to improve operating efficiency on an ongoing basis.
The environment:
Multiple client data sources, across multiple geographies, including a COBOL mainframe application, MS Dynamics CRM, and various custom-built trading and customer management platforms.
Microsoft SSIS was the preferred data integration solution.
The solution:
Master Data Management implemented a solution to verify, standardise and consolidate existing client data across the major client systems, leveraging Microsoft SSIS for extract and load, and Precisely Trillium for advanced data matching, exception management and data consolidation (the "single view").

Local Government Billing and Audit Remediation
Business Driver
A South African local authority received a qualified audit due, in part, to data inconsistencies with billing, customer and services data. MDM was contracted to identify key data issues for remediation in order to address the audit findings.
The environment
The customer, services, materials, and billing data are sourced from SAP, the Venus municipal billing system, the GIS application and various other systems
The solution:
MDM delivered a focused data quality assessment that allowed the municipality to identify and remediate data discrepancies across its customer, account, billing, properties and services data.
As a result, the municipality was able to cut its outstanding debt by nearly 50%, gained insight into business process failure impacting key service delivery and revenue collection, and address many of the audit findings

Corporate Real Estate (CRES)
Business driver:
The client, a major financial services corporation, has a property portfolio of hundreds of units costing more than R2billion per annum to run.
The challenge? Poor data quality made it impossible to answer the fundamental question: "How much does it cost to run each building?"
The environment
The core system being used by this client was SAP - holding a subset of the lease, building, vendor and related payments data. However, a number of home-built solutions, including a GIS system, SQL databases and Excel spreadsheets were being used to plug core property management gaps in functionality.
The disconnects between these systems, combined with the disconnects between variable expenses and leases, were the primary problem.
The solution:
Master Data Management delivered a data quality audit to identify key data issues causing the BI solution to fail. This gap analysis was used to scope the requirements to enhance the existing data to provide an improved reporting capability to manage key metrics.

National Integrated Social Information System
Business driver:
The client, on behalf of a number of government departments, wanted to improve the delivery of services to the indigent community. At the time planning for service delivery was based on the extrapolated results of the 2001 census - with no real understanding of how population demographics had shifted since then.
The environment:
Social grants, of various kinds, are offered by 18 separate government departments and can be offered at national, regional and local government levels. At the time no consolidated view was available to ensure that persons eligible for grants were receiving these.
Most operational systems were mainframe-based Natural Adabas systems. However, a range of other data sources including SQL RDMS systems and delimited text files were also accessed.
The solution:
Master Data Management provided data management consulting and Precisely Trillium to build a consolidated, single view of the citizen. Data from various operational systems were matched, using the Trillium and the best elements from each source were combined to create a single, best record for each system.
These records were loaded into the NISIS Hub, a custom MDM application built by the project team. The initial requirement was delivered within three months.
Key benefits:
Over 70 million South African name and address records were parsed and matched during the project.
Of these, over 65% were geocoded to suburb level allowing departmental planners to more accurately identify the location of registered indigents - critical for planning purposes.
The consolidated view also enables a one-stop operational view identifying whether citizens are receiving the correct support.

Data Governance and Lineage for RDARR
Business driver:
The client, a major African bank, need to implement data governance and ensure data traceability in support of its regulatory reporting requirements
The environment:
The client was primarily a Microsoft shop when the program began - leveraging a broad stack of Microsoft products. Over time, the client's stack expanded to include Oracle and AWS data sources which had to be accommodated by the solution.
The solution:
Master Data Management provided data management consulting, Collibra and MANTA to provide a data governance framework and automated data lineage capability to track critical regulatory reports and meet SARB commitments.
Key benefits:
The client's regulatory requirements were addressed within three months. The client was able to leverage the platform to quickly onboard new systems following the acquisition of another bank. and is currently using the platforms to support their cloud migration.
