Building and Lease master

Business driver:

The client, a banking group, was unable to assign variable costs ( such as electricty, water, and rates ) to buildings making it impossible to accurately measure, and therefore manage, the cost per building. The goal was to improve the data quality so that an accurate cost per building could be calculated - in turn enabling a optimisation of the second highest cost in the bank.

The environment:

Although the bank had standardised on SAP as its operational system, building and contracts data was help in a variety of other systems, including spreadsheets and MS SQL datamarts. Discrepencies between data in these sources meant that variable expenses could not be allocated to specific buildings.

Management of lease renewals was manual and this also exposed the business to unnecessary costs and risks.

An initial manual data assessment exercise had failed to deliver the required inputs.

The solution:

Master Data Management CC provided a data quality assessment using Trillium Software Discovery

Gaps were identified and recommendations were made to address business process and tehcnical gaps impacting on the following elements:

  • The Buildings master
  • Rental Units
  • Leases/Contracts
  • Vendor master
  • Supplier master
  • Conditions
  • Credit Positons
  • the GL

The initial audit was delivered within two weeks.

Key benefits:

The client was able to identify quick wins and scope the requirement for a reporting database that was to provide a consolidated view to enable the required reports.
